Dorris Place Elementary 1926
Dorris Place Elementary School, located at the corner of Dorris Place and Riverside Drive in the community known as Elysian Valley, is a beautiful and safe place to learn and grow and where the school community promotes academic excellence and respect for all individuals. Our school was opened in 1925 and is part of the Los Angeles Unified School District Educational Service Center (ESC) East.
Our school provides classes for students in grades pre-kindergarten through sixth grade, including one Special Day Class (SDC) for second through sixth grade students. Enrollment is currently at 324 students in kindergarten through sixth grade with an additional 38 students in our preschool program.

La Escuela Primaria de Dorris Place, esta ubicada en la esquina de Dorris Place y Riverside Drive, en la comunidad conocida como Elysian Valley. Es un lugar hermoso y seguro para aprender y crecer, donde la comunidad escolar promueve la excelencia académica y el respeto. Donald Strickland has been teaching at Dorris Place for thirty-three years. His dedication to the school and affection for children are reflected in the music and words of his song which he wrote in 1979.
On the occasion of his retirement , this composition is being adopted as the “Dorris Place Song” in tribute to Don, his music will be sung by future generations of students and staff at Dorris Place School.

Dorris Place was awarded the California Pivotal Practice Award by State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond. This newly created 2022 California Pivotal Practice (CAPP) Award Program is being utilized by California in 2022 in place of the California Distinguished Schools (DS) Program. It celebrates schools and districts that implemented an innovative practice during the 2020–21 school year, when California required schools to offer distance learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic. |
